What To Look For When Buying a Pet Kitten

Have you seen those adverts for unregistered or cheap kittens? They are advertised as pedigree, however without being registered the pedigree can not be proven and therefore you are purchasing a ‘moggy’. The majority of unregistered kittens are allowed to leave before 13 weeks old, will not have had both primary vaccinations or vet checks.

There is no such thing as a pedigree kitten if it’s NOT registered. The pedigree will not be registered with a governing cat body to validate it, therefore you have no proof.

All genuine pedigree kittens should be registered. There is no excuse.

Please walk away from any unregistered kitten if you would like a pedigree one, do not buy it because you feel sorry for it. The unregistered breeder will continue to breed where there is a need! No buyers and they will eventually have to stop.

Buying a genuine pedigree kitten from a responsible registered breeder, this is not just a kitten you are buying……..
You are actually buying its parents genetic tests, it’s parents’ show titles/certificates, their vaccinations, full pedigree microchip, worm/flea preventative treatments, veterinary checks, food and nutrition and 24/7 care until he/she goes to their new home! The knowledge, skills, commitment and a life time of support with an experienced breeder.

Good breeders have their cats as their main concern in every way including health and environment they live in.
Responsible good breeders do genetic disease tests, the known HCM in Ragdolls, PKD in Persians. Queens are in the best health before mating. All kittens are well socialised within the home environment and NOT kept in a cage. Some breeders show their cats (which is very costly), to ensure ‘the correct breed standard and type’ is being upheld and produced.
